〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: A2 (previously YoRHa No.2 Type A, and further previously No.2)
CHARACTER AGE: She's first known to be operational four years ago, and can't be that much older than that considering the relative age of 9S who is 3 (the only YoRHa android with a canon confirmed age). She has the appearance of a grown woman in her twenties.
SERIES: NieR: Automata
CHRONOLOGY: Ending E
CLASS: Appears to be a Villain at first glance but turns out to be an Anti-Hero all along.
HOUSING: I'd like to request she be housed with 9S as a roommate, and if you want to give her random other roommates that is fine too.

BACKGROUND: Here is a summary of most of the game from her perspective, under "Story" and "NieR: Automata". It skips out on the endings, though, so I'll explain where she's at now.

In route D, as 9S demands that A2 and he fight to the death, she proves herself superior in combat, overpowering him entirely. Just as she's about to deliver the final blow, she remembers 2B's plea to take care of 9S and hesitates, unable to kill him. He takes the opportunity to kill her instead, but in the process he is accidentally pierced on her sword as well, and the both of them die.

Project YoRHa, now that all of its androids are killed, is complete and the Pods move to finish the job by conducting a data wipe and erasing its memory from the world forever. But the Pods, starting to show some semblance of free will and emotion, realize that they don't want to do it, and attempt to save the data of A2, 2B, and 9S. They struggle to hack the data, as its nearly long gone, but they manage it and A2, 2B, and 9S are reconstructed, their memories and data saved miraculously by the Pods, completely unaware of what the Pods did for them as they sleep soundly. They can now continue their lives on Earth.

PERSONALITY:
A2 was once a much different android. When she was simply No.2, a model from the previous generation of YoRHa androids forced into command when her squad leader was killed in action, she was never ready to be a leader. But, despite her hesitance, she was full of optimism and love for the world around her and her squadmates. That is, until they started to drop like flies to the virus wiping them out and turning them against their fellow android, and they had to be put out of their misery. At the end, when No.2 was the only one left, and she found out that Command set the whole thing up to phase out their models, she realized there was no hope for YoRHa androids. Betrayed by Command, she ran and survived, marked a traitor for her survival.

Hardened by years of endless fighting on the surface of the Earth, on the run from all other androids, covered in grease and grime, she is not so full of hope and love anymore. Now, she has few words to spare others on the rare occasions she does run into other people, and when she does they are usually combative and insulting. She's got a record short temper, often opting for violence if she thinks that might get her what she want. Her only soft spot remains Anemone, an Earth android she befriended when she was still No.2 and the only other survivor of her original mission to Pearl Harbor. Even then, she very rarely encounters her on purpose. She avoids people in general, hating interaction beyond what she's forced to endure.

And machines, for the part they played in wiping out her squad, she hates the most of all. More than simply killing hostile machines for survival, she seeks out machines to kill, killing a defenseless baby machine in her initial appearance in the game for no reason other than it being what it was. When Pod 042 attaches itself to her and asks her what she intends on doing at the start of her stint as a player character, she simply states that she wants to kill every last machine, focusing only on her hatred, and instantly continues to seek out the strongest among them to destroy them.

It's only when she meets Pascal and the peaceful machines of his village that she starts to show a different opinion of some machines. She's forced to go to him to replace her faulty fuel filter, and when he actually does it without hesitation, she's floored by any machine's capacity for kindness. It is then that her intense loyalty streak becomes fully clear, and when the village is wiped out save for the children, she fights tirelessly to protect them solely because they offered her kindness, despite their status as machines. A2 would argue that she doesn't care about anyone, least of all machines, but the truth is that she cares so deeply for those that she secretly attaches herself to. In Ending C, she even allows herself to die in order to save 9S from the virus solely based on the memories of 2B within her and 2B's final request to take care of him, despite his complete hatred of A2 for killing 2B.

Despite her unending loyalty, though, she's no stranger to mercy killing. When the children all die and Pascal feels complete despair and asks her to either kill or wipe his memory, she opts to wipe his memory, effectively killing the Pascal that exists as he is now. She killed 2B and her own squadmates who were infected by the virus in a similar fashion, and still feels that pain, but when it comes down to it A2 can make those hard choices from her history with them. She's well practiced in giving up when everything seems hopeless.

But still, a streak of hope remains in her. Despite being betrayed by Command so completely, the drive to protect humanity programmed into every YoRHa android is still within her. To the end, she believes in the lie that humanity survived on the moon, and she works tirelessly to protect them when they seem to be targeted by the Tower. She believes the lie more than anyone, and clings to that hope that humanity will see its glory days again on the Earth someday. That is partly what fuels her hatred of machines, the weapons that were made to kill humanity in the first place. But 9S brokenly informed her that humanity has long since been wiped out -- and apparently her heart still had the capacity to break after all these years.

POWER:
Android Phsyiology - canon power set
A completely mechanical body, though at first glance and touch she appears human. Due to being an older model, she has visible segmentation in her joints. She does have a substance similar to blood within her veins, but if a truly curious party were to, say, take her leg off, she'd be all metal parts in there. Her weight is around 307lb despite her light build and she is much stronger and slightly faster than the average human, without tiring as easily. Androids of her variety do not need to eat, but do need to power down and "sleep" occasionally, and can upload their memories to computers to save them should they die and need to be restarted/revived (though she in particular has not had access to the computers necessary to revive in four years). Parts can go bad or break for a multitude of reasons and be repaired mechanically or replaced, from arms and legs down to "organs" such as fuel filters. She can attach plug-in chips to optimize her build to her preferred fighting style for the situation, though removal of her OS chip without backing up first will kill her.

Additionally, androids of her particular make have the ability to upload weapons as code to her NFCS system and summon/dismiss them seemingly from the air at will, though she has to find a physical copy of the weapon first to upload its data. When not in use, they float behind her back as a means of "sheathing" them, and only two can be equipped at a time by her model. She only has the ability to do this with light swords, heavy swords, spears, axes, and fists. She has the capability of using a Pod for ranged and special attacks, but she no longer has one at her canon point. She also has evasive systems that allow her to dodge attacks quickly, the ability to contract viruses the way a computer can, the ability to understand data nigh-instantly by simply uploading it to herself, and can be hit hard by things such as EMPs.

Berserker Mode - canon power
Also known as B-Mode. A2 must stop for a second or two to remove her limiter to activate B-Mode. She then glows a deep red, gaining sudden incredible speed and hitting much, much harder. However, this has the added drawback of weakening her defenses as well as "increased maintenance costs", which basically means B-Mode actively does harm to her rapidly as she uses it whether she's hit via her lowered defenses or not. It will automatically deactivate once her health becomes critical, and she will soon need to repair herself afterwards, her joints even sparking from the strain.

LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE:
A2 has fought pointlessly. She's also fought just to survive. All of the former came with being a soldier for YoRHa. She may not have known it at the time, but the humans she was fighting for were all long gone. After leaving, she turned her sword against fellow androids, sent after her to finish the job Command's virus couldn't complete. The only time she's fought to survive is when she was fighting selfishly, when she was fighting to live despite YoRHa's need for her to die to bury their secrets.

Still, she always had that small hope that she would see humanity return to Earth. She thought that hope had been destroyed, until she saw humans for the first time. Until she saw them here.

She's entranced by them. They seem so much like androids, but softer. Lighter. She can't deny her programming that values human life above all others, and that's what makes choosing to fight for them again so difficult. She wants it to be an easy choice. A return to brighter days when she was fighting selflessly, as a soldier should. But that A2 is long gone. And the complication is that these humans aren't fighting aliens or machines; they're fighting each other.

She's not sure whether she can't trust herself to fight selflessly anymore, or if she can't trust herself to fight selfishly the way she did before she hesitated to kill 9S. She doesn't know which is worse. She wants to defy YoRHa and choose to survive despite their attempts to wipe out every trace of themselves. She wants to. If you asked her, she'd say she can without hesitation. But when it comes down to it, she halted her sword before the final blow on 9S. She's no longer fighting selfishly when it is the most necessary.

So she won't trust herself to fight for these humans that want her to register in their military. She refuses.

The decision isn't easy. And maybe she's a coward after all these years of fighting, but she never wants to return to that time she spent with YoRHa Command again. This may not be YoRHa, but it is still fighting for humanity. It is still fighting selflessly.

Maybe she's through fighting at all. She finally has that luxury, after all. Or so it seems.

FINAL NOTES: She's currently equipped with a few recovery items, a small bag full of little machine parts such as cogs and bolts and such (kept as currency), and a small katana as well as a two-handed katana (specifically the ones handed down to her by 2B, Virtuous Contract and Virtuous Treaty).
